Television has changed a lot over the past 10 years. A plethora of channels to choose from, LCD screens, hi-definition picture. With emerging and constantly evolving technologies, plopping down in front of the television got a little bit more complicated. These days, the hard choice is no longer selecting your favorite network or what program to watch. It is whether you should pick cable or satellite.

A good thing to do is make a pro/con list to help you make a good choice. Then come to a final decision. We have assembled a few considerations for you below. Hopefully, this helps a little.

Let’s begin with the advantages of cable service. Whether it’s Comcast or Cablevision, digital cable is growing at a fast clip that its creators at Motorola are happy about. Innovations in this new service have provided greatly improved picture quality. Plus there are so many more channels. All this comes at a comparable price tag to satellite television. Cable channels are also easily accessible from multiple rooms in the house.

On the flipside, however, Cablevision costs depend on where you are located as local taxes do affect your monthly cable bill. Likewise, cable companies doesn’t easily have reach to more rural areas. And since cable TV operators broadcast their signals from a home site, you should also be ready to foot the bill when they raise service costs. This is to update equipment that is needed for your viewing pleasure. So, comparing its price to satellite isn’t quite a valid point of argument. It all ends up pretty much the equal with all the added expenses.

Now for the advantages of satellite TV. Your television experience will match that of a cinematic experience. Trust me, I am not exaggerating in this area. Satellite TV services such as DirecTV and Dish Network promise hundreds of channels on HD. They also have that movie quality audio and picture displays. Because of the science behind satellite TV systems, it is readily and easily available in both urban and rural areas. Definite advantage to satellite.

As for the cons, getting started and purchasing all the equipment when you sign up can be pricey. Also, satellite reception is moody and often dependent on the weather conditions outside. Lining up your choices next to each other, such as Dish TV versus Cox Cable is the best way to comparison shop. It doesn’t matter how you make your choice. Flip a coin. Consult your friends and neighbors. It’s your tv, anyway. It’s your choice. Just make sure you don’t regret the pricey decision.

The DVR has to be the greatest add-on to my television. Ever since I got hooked up with the DirectTV Russian package and their new digital video recorder, my television viewing habits have changed.

Let me give you a brief example.

If you have not watched television with a TiVo or a DVR, you do not know what you are missing. You have complete control over everything you decide to watch. If you are watching a program, and all of the sudden you realize that you are hungry, you can just pause the program. Go make your food, and come back when you’re ready, even if it takes 15 minutes!

Then when you begin viewing your program again, you will have the added advantage of skipping through any advertisements that come up. Pass right through them each time they pop up! I don’t think I’ve seen a full commercial in three months.

Now here is how I get the most out of my DVR. I don’t even bother channel surfing anymore. I simply set up my DVR to save the shows I like. Even when watching football, I set the digital video recorder, then I sit down about an hour after the game actually starts. This way, I can fast forward through all the commercials, and watch a football game in about half the time.

Finally, I can always see new episodes of my favorite series. For example, new episodes are coming out soon of Friday Night Lights on Direct TV. On the digital video recorder, all I need to do is select the record series choice, and each time the show comes on, my Direct TV DVR finds it night or day, and saves it for me. I can set it to save all of the episodes, or just the first-run episodes. All of this in crystal clear hi def too!

Then, when I have the time to watch television, all of my favorite shows are ready and waiting there for me to watch. No need to rearrange my schedule around the networks, not with my new Direct TV digital video recorder.

While other companies like AT&T U-verse and Verizion Fios have also begun to offer DVR service, satellite TV companies like DIRECTV pioneered the product.

Today people are seeking to maximize their entertainment dollar. High fuel prices, a slowing economy, and high food costs are putting the squeeze on citizens. Luckily, one of the great buys in entertainment is your cable or satellite television service.

If you stop and think about it, you can get a bundle including over 100 stations including premium movie channels like Cinemax and Starz for about $95 dollars a month. That is less than you typically spend for dinner and a first run movie. The latest and greatest in the pay TV market is HD, or high definition service. What should you consider when hooking up that new plasma TV you just bought?

Don’t forget that your basic cable television or satellite TV service is not in HD. You have to specifically buy a package that includes this type of programming. So where do you begin?

Call your current provider and investigate exactly what they offer as far as hi-def service. Satellite TV corporations DISH Network and DirecTV have been leading the charge as far as providing the most high definition when you look at channel counts. Cable television providers like Cox also have some great offerings, including HD on-demand. Find out exactly how much upgrading to HD will cost, and if you need to buy additional equipment.

If what they offer is not what you want, its time to do a little comparison shopping. The newest deals include an all hi-def package from DISH Network called Turbo HD. Direct TV sells HD service for just $9.99 per month. Charges per month are different with cable TV companies across the country, so you will need call your cable operator to see what the price is for high definition.

Another factor to consider is that most telecom companies now offer television service. AT&T now provides their U-verse TV service in some areas they cover along with telephone and high speed internet service. Verizon is also in the game, providing their fiber to the home service FiOS in some areas. It is advisable that you compare services side-by-side, such as U-verse vs DirecTV. All of this is a great benefit to the consumer, as more competition encourages low costs in the end.

Dish Network just released fresh programming bundles called TurboHD. These new programming packages are all HD, removing of the SD networks. So is this new satellite TV the right for you?

It all depends on what you want from your pay TV provider. Some folks want every single channel that is available. They don’t care if 20 of them are shopping channels, or that six of the channels are public access. They just want all of the channels.

On the other hand, many have become weary of trying to wade past all of the junk on the cable dial, looking for something decent to watch. For consumers who have recently purchased a new HDTV, Turbo HD from DISH Network may be the perfect solution.

The three different options with TurboHD are the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. All of these packages are made up of hi definition channels only. Pricing starts at about $24.99 per month for the entry level package. That package, however, does not include your local channels like ABC and Fox, which cost $5 more per month.

DISH Network also offers the Platinum level, which is an additional service to any of the other TurboHD levels. This Platinum package is $10 per month, and adds on seven additional hi def channels such as HDNet Movies and NHL Network.

One sticking point with some current DISH Network customers is they have not been allowed to switch over to the TurboHD packages, even though they are cheaper. Currently only new subscribers to DISH Network have been allowed to get the TurboHD only bundles. Current customers can get DISH TurboHD, but only as an add-on to the SD package.

A final consideration you should know about is how DISH Network is counting the channels included in the bundles. For example, the Dish Network Bronze package which includes 44 channels, of which 24 are network channels, six are pay-per-view, and 14 are video-on-demand channels. Some would consider that plenty but others are accustomed to having quite a bit more content to choose from. One final note, none of the TurboHD levels include premium movie channels like Starz or Cinemax, so don’t be surprised when you have to pay more for commercial free channels like that. For more detail on these packages, check out the latest Direct TV reviews.

I’ve been itching to get rid of Comcast for a long time. The issue is they suck you in with their bundles that include voice, high speed internet, and cable TV service. When customers try to remove one, you lose the savings of the package.

But the cable TV service just needs to go, as the service and quality is below average. There is so much discussion these days about hi def, there just wasn’t much selection with Charter cable television. So I began doing a little research on who else was providing service in my area.

I happen to be one of the people who have a few options. Unlike most subscribers who can only select from either the cable company or DIRECTV satellite service, I have a third option in my region. The old telephone company in my area has been altering their network. Now there is another consideration with Verizon and their fiber optic service.

That doesn’t mean of course I won’t have the same issues. It would place me in the same situation as with the cable television company, as the phone guys want customers to bundle their TV setup with internet and voice service. If the service is good, customers will be pleased. But if its not you’re in the same circumstance that I’m in now with the cable operator. So I’m doing a side by side comparison, cable vs Direct TV so I make the right choice.

The reviews I found on the internet are fairly good on telecom television service. Of course it is new, there is always a risk with a new technology like this, and some customers share their poor reviews. Some of those reviews are the quite amusing, simply for the reason customers decide to write a dissertation on their horrible experience and post it on the internet. Unhappy customers badmouth the company like it is some huge conspiracy to make the customer unhappy, like the company does not want to make money!

Another option I’m looking into is of course satellite TV. Because we have four TV watchers in our home, we usually buy a premium cable television bundle. The satellite TV choices seem to be pretty even, as the DirecTV Premier and the America’s Everything Pak by Dish Network are both right around $105 a month. Sure that’s fairly pricey for cable television, but if you compare that to treating your family to dinner and a movie, it really isn’t all that much. Some of my family speak Spanish, so the DIRECTV Mas bundle looks like a winner. The good thing is that there are plenty of Direct TV opinions to help me decide which direction to take.

In the early 1990s, satellite television was first introduced to the market. It was understandable that only a few people actually went out of their way to get their hands on a satellite dish. After all, the dish was a lot more expensive just as its size was considered large and intrusive.

At the time, satellite dish owners also used it to be able to access networks from around the world or channels that are not meant for mass audiences. The interesting thing though, people did not readilyget these channels. They had to look for those signals that is usually by chance alone.

This is no longer the case these days. If you want a particular channel, all you have to do is sign up with a direct broadcast satellite provider or DBS company. A DBS provider, such as Directv and Dish Network, is the one who chooses the channels from the programming sources and brings it to your television sets. Simply sign up, an installer comes out and puts up a satellite dish for you and connects it to all of your television sets inside the home. Usually, homeowners can have up to four different rooms set up to receive satellite TV signals. This is quite an advantage when lining up Direct TV vs Dish TV.

Satellite television is not only limited to the number of channels you can have. There is also a satellite HD that feeds apt programs for your hi definition television set. HDTV has a bigger resolution that gives way to maximum viewing pleasure. These shows also comes with surround sound that pretty much takes the cake for television and home theatre enthusiasts alike.

100% Hi Definition Service.

If you’re a cable TV subscriber, your service provider most likely carries around 20 to 50 channels in HD. But if you have access to satellite TV, chances are you’re enjoying up to 100 channels that have nice crisp pictures and flawless reception.

At this time, not even the biggest cable TV companies like Comcast, Time Warner, Brighthouse, Cox Cable and Charter Cable can compare to DirecTV’s 130+ channels you can see in HD. By the end of the year, DirecTV projects satellite TV subscribers will be watching 100 to 150 channels on HD. Put that HDTV to good use and maximize your viewing experience through satellite television!

Pay Less, Watch More.

The pro-con list could go on and satellite would still emerge superior to its cable counterpart. However, it all boils down to this: You get to see more for a price that won’t burn a hole in your pocketbook. With satellite, you get more features, more movies, more music, more cartoons, more sports, more HD! You will receive more of virtually everything each month. Great sports programming like the NBA League package are also available for an extra fee. What more could a customer ask for?

Free Satellite TV Installation.

Most cable TV companies charge you up to $100 for sending out a technician to gear up your television sets. Satellite TV providers Dish Network and DirecTV offer free installation and setup for your convenience. You no longer have to worry about reading the fine print or fees that cable companies (over)charge one time or monthly.

Multi-media Experience.

Radio on Your TV?! The boundaries of media are once again broken, but in a good way. Subscription to Dish Network gives you access to Sirius Satellite, so you can listen to the best music all day long once you’re tired of watching tv.

Family Friendly Packages.

With your current cable subscription you get basic packages with channels picked for you. However, satellite TV services from Dish Network and DirecTV program bundles that will cater to all members of the family. Everyone should be able to enjoy viewing without worrying what they young ones are seeing. These satellite packages ensure that kids see age-appropriate as well as educational shows.

Comparing your local cable company, such as Comcast vs Direct TV might save you some money. Switch now to a great DirecTV deal if you don’t want to regret missing out on anything.

The television has been the most used entertainment device in almost all homes in the United States ever since it was invented. It is still the top media source in the home, though the home computer is gaining ground, and it looks like it will stay that way for a long time to come. It has surpassed both print media and radio media in terms of use and profitability. But pay television relies on a service provider and the two types from which we can choose from are satellite TV or cable television.

Cable television is delivered through optical fiber cables and coaxial cables. The big advantage of cable TV is that it the quality of its broadcast is not deterred in any way by mountains, trees or any other geographical limitations. The disadvantage from the cable company point of view is that it is very expensive to constantly expand and maintain the wiring necessary to broadcast the network content. Today cable TV is offered by more companies compared to satellite broadcasting. Such companies are Cox cable, Charter cable, Time Warner, Bright House cable and Comcast cable. The competition to be the biggest and best cable company will ensure you that you will get your money’s worth.

Satellite TV on the other hand is offered by just two companies in the United States. First is Dish Network and the other is Directtv. Both of which rely on the receivers sold to their customers and they use communication satellites in order to broadcast their programs. They usually have more stations compared to Comcast basic cable and usually cost quite a bit less than cable. However, the costs involved here are the satellites that must be sent into orbit. There are lots of sources to browse Direct TV reviews and find out more about the company.

The good news for any customer is that there are different choices in the pay TV market. Whether the preference be based on programming, prices, packages or customer service; the consumer will be able to find a suitable provider for him or her.

Which should you choose? People in the USA are now more likely to order satellite TV over cable TV for the bottom line reason that you receive more for your money with satellite television. You also get all of the best that TV has to offer the consumer. Not to mention the best price too. Satellite television costs less than cable by far. These days with satellite TV, you will be getting hundreds of audio and video options with your package. Cable operators charge you by how many stations you choose, and that can really add up quickly. Better yet, today you can get a brand new satellite television system at no charge.

If you want any extra premium channels such as Starz or Cinemax, get ready with your cash, because you have to be prepared to spend a lot of extra money. They don’t provide you with any service at all in the outlying areas, thus satellite television is the only game in these regions of the county. Cable companies will offer more stations in the urban cities, as there they have the potential for many more subscribers. So at times, a lot may depend on where you live in the country. While they are offering more pay channels in the suburban parts of the country, the number of channels you will receive overall depends on the cable system itself, they aren’t always up to date with the most modern technology.

Satellite TV on the other hand offers many more options, and lots of programs that fit your interests. If you haven’t ever considered satellite TV, it may be time to open your mind to all that is now out there. As mentioned earlier you will pay less for the cost for satellite TV when comparing it to cable. Usually, cable can be very expensive because they have a large network to upgrade and maintain.

If you are the type of person that wants more for your money, and who isn’t like that, the certainly check into the two large satellite companies offering service to see what the can offer you today. Another point to consider is quality. Most of us have had the horrible experience of watching poor quality picture from the cable company. Then when you call for service, it takes a long time for a technician to come out and fix the problem. While you may experience problems from time to time with satellite television, overall they have better customer service. Many satellite TV companies also have deals with local carriers like Verizon and Qwest, so you can have a combined bill.

Satellite TV offers the best in digital programming, and they back up their product with excellent service. With satellite TV you can also receive foreign language channels, for example the DirecTV Russian programming package and the DISH Latino Spanish bundle are good foreign languge options. Finally, if you have a family, including young kids you can find much more for them as far as viewing choices. There literally hundreds of family and children’s programs for you to pick from. Add to that a DVR, and you will always be able to entertain the kids. If great content is all you need, Dish Network even offers 100% hi def packages now, called Turbo HD Gold.
