For many people, SE Optimization is something only highly skilled people can do. As a Dallas SEO it’s my belief that a lot of this is due to all the snake oil written by self described SEO Guru’s. Some do this because they do not know any better while many others do it because their Clients would stop paying them if they knew how easy it was to rank a web site. SEO isn’t rocket science peeps. It’s a systematic series of procedures that if done properly, will cause a Website to move up in the rankings.
First up, the person in charge of obtaining the domain should make sure that keywords are part of the domain name if it’s possible. When all things are equal, a Website with your keywords in the domain name will outrank a website without the keywords in the web address.
Next, the you keywords should be included in the Website name. This helps the search engines figure out what the subject of your Website is.
It’s important to make certain keywords are a part of the Title of every page on your site, or at least, you should use some keywords in the title of the page or article. This has the same effect as putting keywords in the Title of your Website in that it helps the search engines determine what the page is about, what words to rank it for and how relevant it is. Plus, the Website or Blog should be designed so that the Page Title is in the H1 tag. Search engines give a lot of value to the H1 tag and so it’s important in good SEO practices. If you’re using a web design company company, make certain they know how to do this one little thing.
You should now have those three things taken care of. Now that you do, it is critical that the keywords you want to rank for show up in the content of the page. I like to use them at least once in the first paragraph and once or twice more in the article somewhere, especially near the end of the page. A few more times between the first and last paragraph won’t hurt, whatever you do, make certain to use them in the first part of the page and again at the end.
Lastly, probably the most important thing of SE Optimization actually takes place off your Website. In my opinion, the most important thing in obtaining a higher ranking is backlinks leading back to your page on your Website. And it’s not enough to just get backlinks, these backward links need to have your keywords as the Anchor text of the links back to your site.
How important are backlinks? I have ranked quite a few Websites that didn’t have the keywords in the URL, plus I can rank one that doesn’t have keywords in the Website Title, Page Title and in the Content (although it’s much, much harder to do), but without anchored backward links going to your web page, {it is impossible} to to get higher rankings in the search engines for any search phrases that are the least bit in high demand.
